Little was known about the American rapper from Memphis, Tennessee until the FNF (Let’s Go) hit our playlists. GloRilla, Gloria Woods, known by her stage name Big Glo, had been trying to create an impact in the industry since 2019, but it was only in the summer of 2022 that her popularity skyrocketed. Now, she has become the best breakthrough artist and is enjoying her fame and name in the industry, with many new songs soon to flood our way.
GloRilla’s Career In A Glimpse
Gloria Woods was born in Memphis, Tennesse, and was number 8 out of 10 on her mother’s side. Her early brought up was in the Church, and she did her graduation from Martin Luther King College Prep.
Although the American rapper wanted to become a singer after losing her voice, she switched to rap. She adopted the stage name of Big Glo and launched her first mixtape album, Most Likely Up Next, in 2019 and EP P Status in 2020.
Breakthrough Moment: FNF (Let’s Go) Going Viral
The release of FNF proved to be the breakthrough point for the Memphis rapper. After her viral song, she got nominated for two awards. Besides, she has also worked with big names like Cardi B, Yo Gotti, Duke Deuce, etc.
Big Glo also has the prestige of being the first female rapper ever to be signed by Yo Gotti’s record label, the Collective Music Group. She is expected to release her debut album by the end of 2022. And this event has actually made GloRilla a big name in the hip-hop scene of America.
Winning The 2022 BET Hip Hop Awards
Woods has marked the first milestone of her career by naming 2022’s BET Hip Hop Award for Best Breakthrough Artist. The 23-years old rapper didn’t only win the award but also performed on her song ‘Tomorrow’ and ‘FNF’ to end the night perfectly. The other female rap legends like Lil Kim and Trina could be easily seen vibing and rocking in the crowd during her performance.
Controversies And Scandals
After her stardom picked the hype, the 23-years old rapper and the producer of her song FNF, HitKidd, got into an online spat last weekend. HitKidd alleged her to sell the rights of FNF to Yo Gotti’s record label without legal permission from the producer.
At the same time, Big Glo claimed that she didn’t get anything from FNF other than the show. The counter-allegation from the female rapper was put forward, claiming that the producer sold the rights of a song for $50,000 after one week of release as he wasn’t sure how big a hit it was going to be. The legal battle has yet to be decided, but we wish the best for the star and her upcoming projects.
