Girl Boss is the female-led organization founded by multi-millionaire serial entrepreneur, Sophia Amoruso. Formerly the CEO and Founder of the wildly successful vintage fashion brand, Nasty Gal, she decided to sell that venture and walk in her truth, which was helping other women. Their mission is "to redefine success for millennial women by providing the tools and connections they need to own their futures."
As long time fans of her work, we especially appreciate what her organization has been up to lately.
Let's start with their giving program to female-identifying entrepreneurs and creatives in need. They list their purpose as "To create a new reality where women can make progress personally, professionally, and in service of others." This is certainly accurate, as they have been providing assistance to many. According to the website, "Grants are awarded on a biannual basis to individuals pursuing entrepreneurial endeavors. Each grant beneficiary receives project funding for $15,000, plus exposure through the Girlboss platform and community, as well as local and regional press."
Girl Boss rallies are conventions that are hosted by the organization, hosted by Sophia with several inspiring and powerful speakers. From thriving tech firm CEOs to baddie fashion moguls, they have them all. Everyone in attendance can always relate to at least one of the presenters, and that alone is o valuable! The videos from many of the speeches and panels can be found on their Youtube channel.
If you would like to see a theatrical portrayal of her early years, check out the Netflix series based on her life, "Girl Boss." While it was canceled, it was a decent series! But, if you want the raw and most personal portrayal of her life and career, check out her NY Times best-selling novel, "#GirlBoss."
Rock on, Sophia!
